Old Friend

Thank goodness it's Friday! Are you feelin me? I'm very excited for the long weekend. I mainly look forward to the weekends because I can have long, leisurely mornings.

Right now, I have a really sleepy bird sitting on my shoulder. That's right, I said bird. When I moved into my new apartment, I took our family bird to live with me. Rainbow is a peach faced lovebird.

We got little Rainbow when I was in 6th grade. While she is the family pet, she bonded with me primarily. So, once I got my own place, it was my turn to have her stay with me! It's been really nice to have a pet to come home to and not silence.

I know what you're probably thinking, "Birds don't have a pet personality." But, believe me, they do! I equate it to a baby. Their Mom's know what every cry means, even if they all sound the same to a stranger. Same goes for this one. She's got annoyed chirps, excited chirps, sleeping chirps, content chirps, aggressive chips, you name it!

This is a picture of her when she realized I was taking a picture of her...

Ever since she came to live with me, I've been getting her out 2x a day. First, I get her out for a few minutes once I get home, so she doesn't break her neck trying to run around her cage doing tricks to get my attention. Then I get her out later at night to hang out with me for an hour or so while I read blogs and what not. She will first try to play on the keyboard or eat my pens, but eventually she climbs back on my shoulder and starts to fall asleep...super cute.

She seems to be pretty content with her new space and is attached to my hip shoulder.

Hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday weekend !:)

  1. What a cutie! I am dying for a pet, but it just doesn't fit into our life now.

  2. I can't believe you have a pet bird! It's so funny to think of it falling asleep on your shoulder while you're reading blogs. So cute! Glad you have a little companion at your apartment:-)
