Quick Trip
The past 24 hours have gone by so fast! I got to Charlottesville yesterday around 4pm and left today around 4pm. Literally 24 hours...too short! The main reason I was there was to take the Psyc subject GRE. Luckily my Mom is AWESOME and said that she would drive to Charlottesville (3 hours) and get a hotel for us just so I didn't have to get up at 5am the morning of my test and drive in the dark an hour to take the test. She was absolutely right and it was a fantastic idea because I couldn't find the building this morning AND there was a home game scheduled. I probably would have called my Mom crying if I had tried to attempt this "adventure" on my own. I'm fine with adventures, but not ones that involve getting to a test on time;)
Friday night my Mom and I exchanged birthday presents then went out to dinner at Basil! It has such a great atmosphere. I got the falafel skewers that came with a mix of Mediterranean appetizer samplers (e.g., hummus). It was so good! My Mom got the penne me kota. Translation: pasta + veggies + chicken + spices + cream sauce. It was pretty good, but definitely filling. It was so nice to get out of Harrisonburg, go out to a nice restaurant, and see my Mom. I hadn't seen her since August! The next time I'm in Charlottesville, I am definitely trying Eppie's and/or Mellow Mushroom. I've heard so many great things about those restaurants!
Saturday I woke up at 5:30 to make a quick stop at Starbucks before I took my exam. After it was over my cousin Allie was waiting for me! I got to see her dorm (she's a "first year" at UVA), which is always exciting. The three of us went to lunch at Revolutionary Soup followed by gelato at Splendora's. The pumpkin bisque at Revolutionary Soup was to die for and the chocolate sorbet at Splendora's was really rich for something that's dairy free! Sadly, I took no pictures...and the trip ended right after our food outing. Luckily, I get to see my Mom again soon when I go home for Thanksgiving!
I'm pretty sure I'll be applying for jobs in Charlottesville if I don't get into a PhD program. It's such a beautiful city and has so many fun things to do without the overwhelming feeling of bigger cities.
